Antivirus-software blijkt besmettelijk

AMSTERDAM - Het online beveiligingsbedrijf Internet Security Systems heeft een fout gevonden in antivirus-software van Trend Micro. Door de onvolkomenheid kan het programma zelfs bijdragen aan de verspreiding van een virus.
De fout bevindt zich in de Antivirus Library van Trend Micro, een code die gebruikt wordt in 29 producten van de virusbestrijder. Ook software van Symantec (NORTON) en F-Secure zijn op een vergelijkbare manier lek, zo schrijft CNET News.
Kwaadwillenden kunnen een programma schrijven dat gebruik maakt van het veiligheidslek, waarna het zich als een nieuw virus kan verspreiden over andere computers die beveiligd worden met hiervoor vatbare software.
Het lek beperkt zich overigens niet alleen tot systemen die draaien onder Microsoft Windows, ook de beviligingssoftware die draait onder Linux en Unix operating systemen is niet waterdicht.
